Geotechnical Engineering

We offer comprehensive geotechnical engineering solutions.
These can be generally classified as follows:

01

Ground Anchors (GA)

Ground anchors are tensile substructures that serve to hold earth in-place where its natural stability profile is altered or disturbed. Applications include tying back retaining walls in basement excavation/embankments and slope stabilization/rectification works.

02

Soil Nails (SN)

Soil nails are an economical and quick solution to slope stabilization for both permanent and temporary conditions. These soil nails comprising of fully grouted steel bars drilled between 3m to 18m into the slope’s soil mass are widely used to prevent slips of many of the gentler cut slopes in the construction of Malaysia’s highways.

03

Horizontal Drains (HD)

Horizontal drains are perforated prefabricated drains installed into soil mass to expedite the draining out of excess pore water to aid in maintaining the stability of the slope. They can be installed as a sole remedial measure or combined with other slope stabilization systems such as soil nails, ground anchors and guniting for more critical slopes.

04

Sheet Pile

Interlocking steel sheet piles makes an economical retaining wall in non-extreme conditions. They are used as a free-standing wall or incorporated with ground anchors or open basement construction to enhance its retaining capacity.

05

Open Basement Construction (Sub-Structural Steel)

I or H section steel struts are installed horizontally or diagonally across opposite sides of a retaining wall to provide counter-acting forces to minimize wall movement during basement excavation. Open Basement Construction is suitable as temporary shoring for basement projects where land encroachment into neighbouring properties is prohibited.

06

Instrumentation

Geotechnical instrumentation provides critical data on ground conditions. Pre-construction stage instrumentation and tests are crucial to guide design and construction planning. Monitoring of instrumentation during construction works that potentially cause ground movement is crucial to ensure safety of the site and its surroundings.

07

Top Down Basement Construction

Top-down construction involves building permanent structures from the ground up, starting with basement excavation and constructing basement levels in layers as the excavation progresses. This method uses concrete floors as lateral bracing for the surrounding walls and employs diaphragm walls to control groundwater and maintain stability. The approach is efficient for large-scale projects, supporting the superstructure even before the substructure is finished, thus speeding up construction.

08

Guniting

Guniting is a process of spraying concrete under pressure onto a surface with simultaneous compaction. Some of its uses Include concrete repairs, tunnelling, slope  Protection against erosion and slope stabilisation in conjunction with soil nails and rock anchors.
